Installation of RAM is pretty straight forward. However, you must use undue force on the ram during installation. On cheaper motherboards, the RAM slot might be a bit thin, so be careful during installation.

  • Work in a well lit are. The inside quarters of a PC is tight.

  • First, you need to remove your old RAM, unless you are using the exact same version as your old one. Mix and matching RAM doesn’t sit well with your system.

  • Locate a free RAM slot and push aside the arms located on either side of the slot.

  • Align the RAM with the slot. Position your thumb over and then push it down with your thumbs.

  • Gently push in the RAM.

  • DO NO FORCE IT! If it doesn’t fit, it doesn’t fit. Contact you vendor for a possible replacement.

  • Once you have seated the RAM properly in the slot, the arms on both sides should follow, locking the RAM in place.

There you have it. Installation of RAM is easy. Switch on your computer and access the BIOS configuration (mine is F2 during start up, yours may be different. Commonly it’s F8). See if BIOS has detected the upgraded amount of RAM.

If however it shows the original amount, reseat your RAM properly again. This a common mistake people make while installing RAM.
